Recent questions from our customers;
So here are some questions that our customers have asked – For your information, we will endeavour to answer a few of these questions;
What is the clip on microphone; the microphone clip?
Microphone ‘clips’ are normally used for lavalier microphones; (also known as a lav, lapel mic, clip mic, body mic, collar mic, neck mic or personal mic). They are small microphones often used for television, theatre, and public speaking applications. This allows for hands-free operation; and some have a built-in mic clip for easy attachment to your clothing. However; a clip on a microphone/Microphone Holder/Clip/Clamp is a plastic item that screws onto the top of Microphone Stands so that it can hold your microphone.
How do you attach a lapel mic?
To do this; insert your mic into its clip. Then; loop the cable back up into it as well. When you attach the lavalier to your talent’s clothing; run the excess cable behind the fabric. This means; all you see from the front is the microphone itself, as well as the clip and a small cable loop.
What thread is a microphone stand?
There is a mic stand adaptor fitted to all our QTX Sound Flexible Microphone Holders Clamps; which provides a 5/8″ thread; and most microphone stands will fit this size thread. The 1/4″ male stud that you can find on some microphone stands fits cameras with a standard tripod screw mount. It is perfect to mount cameras or LCD monitors on a microphone stand.
Questions about Mic Stands;
How do mic stands work?
A number of accessories make microphone stands more useful. These are designed to get the microphone closer to the user; without placing the upright portion of the stand directly in front of the performer. A “boom arm” attaches to the top of the stand so the microphone can move in the horizontal plane. Thus; keeping the upright part of the stand away from the user. Some people prefer only standard vertical mic stands so they can grab the stand and move it around whilst performing – A bit like Elvis would do!
Are mic stands universal?
The Mic stands I have all have a universal thread on the top of the post that accepts the microphone clip usually provided by the manufacturer. These usually come along with the microphone or are noted as an option when you are buying the microphone.
What do microphone pop filters do?
A pop filter, pop shield or pop screen is a noise protection filter for microphones, typically used in a recording studio. It serves to reduce or eliminate popping sounds caused by the mechanical impact of fast-moving air on the microphone during recorded speech and singing.
