Madison MAD TA10BT Stereo Tube Amplifier

The Madison MAD TA10BT Stereo Tube Amplifier has a certain attraction for true Hi-Fi lovers. The superb high-gloss black finish and rose-gold front panel looks really ‘classy’; and the attraction of this amplifier is not only due to its vintage look; but the use of tubes produces a warmer; fuller and cleaner sound than modern transistors.

It has a ‘Vintage’ look and an output of 25 watts per channel; peak output power is 50 watts per channel.  The Madison MAD TA10BT Stereo Tube Amplifier has CD, DVD, LINE inputs and a USB input.  It also has Bluetooth 2.1+ EDR. The pre-amp section has Bass & treble controls; with an analogue VU meter. The amplifier stage is class AB.

Why do tubes amps (valves) sound better?

Tube amplifiers sound better because of the euphonic distortions they add to the music; as well as plenty of other reasons.  These are subtle effects most audible to musicians and very dedicated music lovers; casual listeners (people who “listen” with their eyes open while doing something else) usually won’t notice; but sometimes the difference is so obvious that people’s wives will comment that “wow; that sounds much better” when people use tube amps at home.

Tube amplifiers measure poorly in the lab specifically because of these added distortions, but these distortions are often a part of what make them sound better. Even today with an all-digital infrastructure from recording studio to the home; professional studio microphones have for decades; used tube pre-amplifiers inside the microphones themselves. Today their outputs are fed to tube pre-amplifiers before being digitised for recording; mixing and distribution. Most music lovers use tubes simply because they make the music we all listen to sound better; smoother; warmer and cleaner!
